Swiss publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung profiles Mike Hands, “Savior of the Rainforest” and Founder of Inga Foundation and his 28-year commitment to researching ways to protect the world’s rainforests from deforestation. He does not look like a man who could save the world, but his innovative and sustainable alternative to slash and burn forest clearing methods—through implementation of Inga Tree alley cropping—has provided a way to meet the needs of local communities, while keeping the rainforest and its rich biodiversity intact.
Speaking in an interview conducted at Partnering for Global Impact® 2012 in Lugano, Switzerland, Hands describes his passion and what led up to his status as the rainforest’s unlikely hero.
